Advice for those considering a bequest to help Greyhounds

The purpose of this information:

To explain why we should all make a Will and to ask you to consider a legacy, which will ensure that once you have safeguarded the future of your friends and family, your wish to improve the future for greyhounds is carried out in full.

Why write a Will:

70% of people die without first making a Will. This often results in a lot of trouble for the bereaved relatives. If there are no relatives the Inland Revenue will inherit the assets. Making a Will is the only way to ensure that you decide what happens to your money and property.

How to make a Will:

Making or changing a Will is not difficult or expensive, but to do so properly you should get advice from a professional. The cost of making a Will does vary, and so it is worth contacting several solicitors in your area. If, having made sufficient provision for your dependants you decide to support the work of Greyhound Rescue West of England, then it is important to avoid any confusion that the charity is referred to as follows:

Greyhound Rescue West of England
C/O Hon Treasurer
14 Windsor Lane
Gillingham
Dorset
SP8 4TG
Registered Charity number 1056676

Different Types of bequest:

There are two main ways in which people can leave money to charities:

1. Leaving as set amount...

This is called a pecuniary bequest. The only disadvantage with naming a specific sum in your Will is that the real value of such a bequest will become eroded over time. It may be that the real value of your gift ends up being far less than you intended.

2. Leaving what's left over...

This is called a residual bequest. One of the best ways you could help Greyhound Rescue West of England is to consider leaving us the residue of your estate - the share of your estate that is left after you have taken care of your family and friends. This has several advantages: You know that you have made adequate provision for your family and that any legal costs will be paid. You also know that whatever is left over is going to a wonderful cause - helping to protect greyhounds.

Changing your Will:

If you already have a Will a simple codicil can be added to change any of the provisions in it. If you decide that you want to help Greyhound Rescue West of England then the person who helped you with the original, can advise you on adding a Codicil. This is an easy and inexpensive process.

If you have included a bequest to Greyhound Rescue West of England in you Will, then please let us know. It helps us to know that we are getting in touch with the people who count and we can ensure that you are kept up to date with our work.

Thank you for taking the time to read this information, we hope that you will consider making a legacy that will help us improve the future for many more greyhounds.Back to Top
